Spring Break Day One.

We left Georgia this morning and headed for South Carolina.  We had plans to visit several National Parks during the day and eventually spend the night in North Carolina.

Our first stop was Cowpens National Battlefield.  My least favorite of all National Parks are the battlefields and military parks, but they are part of history and can be interesting.  The battle at Cow Pens was an important battle in the Revolutionary War that eventually led to the defeat of the British in Yorktown.  It was a beautiful walk through the area and a nice way to stretch our legs during a long drive.

While in South Carolina we also stopped at Kings Mountain National Military Park.  This site marks another important battle in the Revolutionary War.  The battle of King's Mountain was fought on October 7, 1780 and was the first major patriot victory after the British invaded Charleston, South Carolina in May of that year.

After King's Mountain we headed to North Carolina where we stopped at another National Park and stayed the night before heading to the coast in the morning.

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.  This military park marks the site of another Revolutionary War battle.  It was getting late so we spent the little time we had exploring the preserved farmhouse on the property instead of the military park.  

This is the Hoskins House and was built between 1811-1813.  The site also included a kitchen house, blacksmith shop, a barn and garden.

We had a fun first day of the trip and the girls were great even with being cooped up in the car all day.
